Freak storm
After 4 months with no rain, a freak storm hit Perth yesterday afternoon. Hail the size of golfballs with thunder and lightning. Jack wasn't so keen on the thunder, but Josie slept through the whole thing. We lost power and at one point I thought we might have to swim out of our house - below is a picture of our driveway and the road outside.

Bush walk
Decided to take Jack and Jo for a bushwalk on the weekend, so with Jo loaded into the backpack we set off. It was a lovely walk, Jack loved pointing out all the trees, nuts, sticks, stones, ants along the way and Josie seemed to enjoy her time in the backpack. However, once we got to our furthest point Jackson decided he was "a bit tired" and wanted a "Mummy carry" Argh.

The ITouch
Rich got an ITouch from work this year, and we have recently found all the free games you can download. Jack loves it, will often ask when Daddy is coming home so he can play with "that thing". Here is a photo of Jack showing one of the games to Josie.

Single Speed Build (Part 1)
Ok, if you are not all that interested in bikes and in particular, fixies, then you may wish to ignore this post! For ages now I have been wanting to build up a single speed bike. It is all the rage at the moment and the process is a whole lot of fun. The first step is to get an old retro looking bike to use as your frame. It took me a while to find one, but on the way to work there was an old Repco Spectra, sitting on the verge ready for the council rubbish collection. We were in business! So this is a bit of a photo essay of the process- from crappy old bike to a thing of beauty (we hope!)

So it was now off to have the frame painted. Meanwhile, some internet searching for new parts was on the cards...
Nice set of wheels with 'flip-flop' hubs
Found these cranks, stem and handlebars for a good price (note the chrome theme)
The Beast as I found her :
After stripping the bike down to the frame, it was time to use the axle grinder to remove the ugly lugs and cable guides. Note: Fixie bikes are all about clean lines.

Almost there... to be continued...
